The New Trump Grift Isn’t Selling Bibles. It’s Selling Volatility.
When one man’s social media account can move trillions of dollars, information becomes the most valuable commodity on Earth.
A few years ago Donald Trump was selling sneakers.
Then came NFTs.
Then came Bibles.
Then came watches.
Those grifts all depended on finding another buyer.
This one doesn’t.
Now all he has to do is hit “Post.”
The Argument
Wall Street used to react to economic reports.
Now it reacts to one man’s mood.
A tariff threat.
A tariff pause.
A Truth Social post.
A rumour.
A denial.
Markets jump hundreds of points before most people have finished their morning coffee.
That isn’t investing.
That’s volatility on demand.
And volatility is where sophisticated traders make enormous amounts of money.
Truth Social becomes a premium information service
Forget the advertising.
Forget subscriptions.
Truth Social may have become something far more valuable.
It is now the first place traders watch for signals.
Not because every post is true.
Because every post might move markets.
Imagine paying a few dollars a month to know five minutes before CNBC starts talking about it.
For hedge funds...
Five minutes can be worth millions.
The real product isn’t information
It’s anticipation.
If traders believe Trump might announce another tariff...
they position themselves.
If he hints at backing off...
they reposition.
If he attacks a company...
they reposition again.
The uncertainty itself becomes the product.
Every post becomes another spin of the roulette wheel.
The uncomfortable question
Nobody needs insider information if the market-moving information is delivered publicly...
...provided they’re the fastest to react.
But critics have repeatedly questioned whether people close to the administration could have an advantage when major policy announcements appear to arrive suddenly or change direction.
Those concerns have fueled calls for investigations, although proving illegal insider trading requires evidence that non-public, material information was improperly used for trading.
That’s a much higher legal bar than simply noticing suspiciously well-timed trades.
Tie it back to Canada
Meanwhile Canada is investing in things that actually exist.
Food.
Critical minerals.
Manufacturing.
Energy.
Things that produce value whether markets are up or down.
America increasingly seems to reward people who can profit from chaos.
Canada is trying to profit from production.
Those are two very different economic philosophies.
Gut Punch
Countries become wealthy by creating value.
Speculators become wealthy by pricing uncertainty.
