Great to see the reduction in dependence on the USA.

Ultimately the diversification of Canada’s trade will push Canada into being more self sufficient too.

Fred Ferguson (GeezerWise)'s avatar

Exactly, Deirdre.

That may be the biggest long-term benefit.

Diversification isn’t just about selling to more countries...

it gives us a reason to build, process and manufacture more of what we need right here at home.

More customers abroad, more capability at home.

WELL written Fred! I think all Canadians are ready for a change, & happy with the countries stepping in to help us rise, instead of applying duct tape to keep us attached to a country that doesn't respect us! Forward Ho! Canada Strong!

Fred Ferguson (GeezerWise)'s avatar

Thank you, Patsy!

I think the key word is **options**.

The more customers, partners and investment Canada develops, the less anyone can take our dependence for granted.

No more duct tape required. 😂

Oh how I appreciate your condensed analysis Fred- thank you as always!

Fred Ferguson (GeezerWise)'s avatar

Thank you, Shelley!

That’s exactly what I’m trying to do...

dig through all the noise and bring back the part that actually matters. ❤️

People in the future will read about this week in September 2026 in history books as a turning point and hugely significant in the development and direction of Canada. This week really is incredible.

Fred Ferguson (GeezerWise)'s avatar

I think we may look back on it that way too, Frank.

Whether it becomes a true turning point will depend on what Canada builds from it...

but damn, a lot of doors opened in one week.

What they are doing is slowly reclaiming the narrative and overshadowing the Maga microphone… 😎

In a world where Murdoch and friends own mass media and Harper has the IDU to help spread propaganda - reclaiming the narrative is essential for our survival. I support PMMC

Fred Ferguson (GeezerWise)'s avatar

There’s something important in that, Josee.

You don’t reclaim the narrative by shouting louder... you do it by giving people something real to point to.

Investment, new partnerships, new markets and things actually getting built.

Results are a hell of a lot harder to drown out than slogans.

I love it. American self-inflicted injuries just keep on stacking up. Trump, as usual, tried to play the Big-I-Am bully but he may as well have cut his own foot off, placed it on the back of his own neck and invited Canada to sit on it.

Fred Ferguson (GeezerWise)'s avatar

😂 Now there’s an image I won’t be getting out of my head anytime soon.

The irony is that pressure meant to make Canada more dependent may end up doing the opposite...

pushing us to build relationships and markets we should probably have developed years ago.

Canada and the UK both! Fortunately for Canada you've got the guy with the wherewithal to make it happen. The UK, not so much 😔 Our bunch seem happy to kiss the ring!

And Trump keeps doing it... He just can't stop himself from looking like the utter buffoon that he is; this time with the press. Moron.

We may still trade with the USA, but USA businesses at least for a few years will find it very hard to sell their good here. No one wants them.

Fred Ferguson (GeezerWise)'s avatar

That’s the other side of this, and consumers will ultimately decide it with their wallets.

Trade with the U.S. will continue...

but Canadian companies suddenly have a pretty good reason to put

**Made in Canada** where people can actually see it.
