Having lived in Kitimat for 24 years and so glad to see that the north coast plan has been stopped. It is rugged land and I could never figure out where they wanted to put the pipeline. There are sections of the highway from Terrace to Prince Rupert that are Skeena River, highway and rail line. Then rock wall. No room for anything. And that highway is often closed due rockfall. Just a terrible area to build anything.
Hey Fred, enjoy reading (your) uplifting posts about Canada (or any other topic); with that, when the content you're reporting is positive perhaps consider swapping out your standard "Gut Punch" (shocking or emotional) closing with something like "Encouraging Trajectory" (?) just a thought :)

This was such a satisfying article Fred- the MOU with Smith was a bit bewildering to me and alas (of course he had his bases covered) he did the right thing yet again. Imagine, no more orphan wells (because the penalty was cheaper than the cleanup (if there even was a penalty). The way he approaches deals making everyone a winner is brilliant- and somewhat turns the table in who holds the power. Damn we are lucky to have PM Carney! And the same goes for you!

Sometimes the smartest solutions aren't choosing one side... they're changing the incentives so both sides have a reason to move.
