I worked the graveyard shift for 4 years. When I finally had enough seniority to move to 2nd shift, I quickly realized something. I didn't realize how my body and mental attitude was affected because it had become a constant state of being to the point of normal until I slept at night and realized the change.

American is the same. Being in an environment of suppression for generations, they have no comparison to what it should be like when democracy works as intended. Normal is fighting for dominance of one party over another with separate ideology. Not lower vehicle cost or prescription medicine higher in the US than other countries is not a priority.

That’s a sharp comparison. Humans adapt to conditions… even unhealthy ones.

Politics is no different.

If conflict becomes the default environment, people start assuming that’s just how things are supposed to work.

Looking forward to it as our second car. We have an SUV to haul the camper around but the second vehicle rarely goes more than 120km, usually 30-35km at a time. An electric car will be perfect.

I costed the mileage against our old Prius that would get 55-60mpg imperial gallon. If we charged an electric at night, when rates are low, the fuel cost was 1/7 of our Prius.

Chinese e-car manufacturer BYD (build your dream) is already # 1 worldwide. It is highly doubtful at this time how any Western car manufacturer will be able to compete with this 20+ year established AND vertically integrated company on price, features and quality - once the markets are opened without penalty import duties (tariffs).

Hell, us 'consumers' should be getting $10,000 Chinese EV's. Protecting industries by 100% tariffs screws us average income citizens. We can't afford new cars anymore even with 7 years loans. Why does Capitalism only work for the rich? Because that's the way it is designed to work...

Fred Ferguson (GeezerWise)'s avatar

I get the frustration... cars are ridiculously expensive right now.

But tariffs aren’t just about companies. They’re about protecting jobs and supply chains too.

Cheap imports can help prices short-term, but losing domestic industry hurts workers long-term.

The real issue is affordability has fallen behind wages... and that’s a bigger policy problem than tariffs alone.

Canada is making big economical moves, that are going to hurt our country. Carney has so out maneuverd trump, but what can you expect from someone who's smarter in finance.

Trump’s trade war will prove as disastrous as his casinos.

Once Canadians own an EV, they are hooked. Not only will it save the economy, it will save the planet.

maybe the U.S. should try real hard to be a little more like canada. then, maybe wouldn’t be a “shithole country”.

Its going to be like East Germany, watching a Modern Western Country thrive next door while getting Secret Police and Constant Propaganda.

Wonder how many Americans will be looking for ways to get in on the deal, just like with our Prescriptions.

Awful read. Technically speaking. Different font sizes. Bold printing. Interspacing. This is not reading an article. This is an article that tries to shout in my ears. Reader indigestion...
