Want to learn French or brush up on your French language skills, Mauril app (Radio Canada) available from the App Store is now #1. It beat out Duo Lingo app. I have been enjoying it as a Quebecer living in Alberta since the separatist referendum in 1995.
Terrific article Fred. Canada is certainly taking the proper approach. It's quite clear to me that, regardless what Jamieson Greer or Howard Lutnick are telling the press, there were unacceptable "red lines" introduced by the US at the 11th hour. Canada can never accept these "proposals".
The press in general often uses a technique called sanewashing, which is the act of minimizing the perceived radical aspects of a person or idea to make them appear more acceptable to a wider audience.
We are all aware of the patently untrue and totally ridiculous things spewing out of Trump's mouth. Since he chooses his sycophants carefully, is it any wonder that Greer and Lutnick follow suit to try to sanitize, i.e.sanewash comments from their boss and lie just as much as he does?
I would love to join your new movement but I will not go on Facebook. I am trying to get rid of Big American Tech. In Europe we have independent tech companies that offer browsers, email services and online shops. That’s fortunate because I will not use Amazon.
I don’t do social media either, except Substack.
I hope you will get many people to become a member of your group.
Great article, Fred. You have stated what I believe a good majority of Canadians are thinking and feeling right now. As a country we don’t need more political rhetoric - instead just a well thought out plan to diversify our many industries and seek out like minded nations to trade with, cooperate with, and really, just get along with. And in essence, that’s the whole idea of TRADE - giving someone else something that they need in exchange for something that you need. I know that it’s more complicated than that, but trade should be mutually beneficial to both parties, it doesn’t have to take the form of an economic dominance.
Mainstream media continues to refer to what happened as a breakdown in trade negotiations. The reality is that the American side was never interested in trade talks. Their only objectives were to shut down all Canadian auto manufacturing and move it all to the USA, and to essentially annex Canada to take over all of our resources.
This is not over, it's only just beginning. Canada is continuing to be threatened and us walking away from the phoney "trade negotiations" is not going to end the assault. Trump may be a moron but he is also relentless.
Fred , I always feel better after reading your articles- you are my daily go to for perspective I can trust. If you had paid subscription’s I’d be on it 🤗
You nailed it. We can't give away control over our future decisions in exchange for a few sheckels that will be taken back anyway, two minutes after we lock ourselves into such a bad deal. No one but us should have any say in decisions that affect our culture, freedom, or control of the gifts the universe has blessed us with. Trump is trying to turn us into something even worse than the fifty-first state. With that, we would have equal say in our decisions. The orange child molester is trying to turn us into a vassal. Actually, he's trying to trick us into volunteering to be a vassal. We cannot back down, or we will lose our status as a free and independent nation. Stay strong, Mr. Carney. We see that you have an excellent, long term plan and know that you are the best person to lead us through its implementation. We couldn't have a better person at the helm for this (if handled correctly) opportunity to make Canada better than it has ever been. Elbows up! 😉 🇨🇦
Good article , would just like to pile on with CE.Krom's, comment about american digital and print media pillage of our space. The enormity of this presents is distorting Canadian development and identity, not to mention employment....Quebec is ahead of English Canada because of america's natural aversion to Anything unamerican.
We really need too get our act together by repatriating a good portion of the ad $s being lost to the US! We, need to dominate our spaces, much in the same way we're focused on growing the economy.
