Great Post Fred! I think Asia, Sweden, Norway, Germany, South Korea, etc., when they heard the 51st state remark, all raised their heads & said What???!!!! Not on my watch! Canada we like, you, we don't, so, we are doing business with Canada & orangeball can keep on making a fool of himself, his country & the whole world, while we all join with Canada & trade. All those people that could fix the whitehouse situation are sitting on their hands & doing sweet nothing to change anything. Eventually no country will want to do business with them. Sad situation for our lovely neighbours minus the orange one!
Oh yes, we can wait it out Fred, but, not without a host of friends standing beside us, willingly, happily, cheering us on. Our Sovereign nation has always been proud of our country & the first, to step in & help where we can. In fact, a friend who goes to Ukraine, volunteering to do anything & everything, has mentioned the possibility of me going for a stint, I just might do that because that is who we are:) Canada Proud!!!
Trumps phoney tariffs will continue to wreck havoc and provide additional motivatoon to move away from trade in industrual goods with the US. What I am waiting to see are investments in maker industries. Gripens, subs, military hardware, canadian domestic branded auto in a joint venture with Japan or Korea. Kit cars as a start where necessary. But turn the corner and move aggressively to replacd the manufacturing jobs. Selling resources is the least important activity and tge benefits are narrow for an industry controlled by US giants who repatriate the earning to the US Where are the things that really build Canada Strong. Depen its industrial depth, employ many in good paying jobs. Thi industrial build out cannot and should not be resource driven it should be Canada Strong driven. Which is growing ling term industrual strength. Carney get it done now.

I think a lot of countries started looking at Canada differently the moment that “51st state” nonsense started.
Hard to build trust while insulting your closest neighbour. Canada seems to be quietly playing the long game.
