Personally, I am not a huge fan of Gavin Newsom, there is something about him I don't trust, but that could just be me......

I agree with this article though, even if the next President is a Democrat, it doesn't mean that Canada can relax again (or any other country, for that matter). IQ47 has certainly made it very clear that it only takes one terrible President in the WH to ruin many, many lives.

For some reason, our PM (Albo in Australia) is still sucking up to IQ47 and I think that is going to cost him the next election. He should take a big leaf out of your PM's book, methinks.

Thanks Monica!

I think you've nailed the bigger issue.

It shouldn't matter whether the next president is a Democrat or Republican.

Canada and Australia both need to make sure one election in Washington can't turn our economies upside down.

A friendlier president would be welcome, but independence is a much better insurance policy.

I am over it.

Great publication Fred! You are right on target! We came, we saw, we took a long walk away from the chaos. Now we walk with pride & confidence, & we trust only when people prove they can be trusted. My take on it :)

Well said, Patsy!

Trust has to be earned, and Canada has learned that lesson the hard way.

We can still be good neighbours, but we're done putting all our eggs in one American basket.

Sadly, I think your reading of the tea leaves is a little awry.

Here in Australia as you should in Canada, the events unfolding in the now deeply dis-United States of America portends to us that it is a nation in decline.

So serious is what the orange-hued turd and his ReTrumpblican cult are planning on doing after the mid-terms, is that another war will occur on American soil. Except this one will make the first Civil War much like a Teddy Bear’s picnic.

Peter, I share your concern about where things are heading, but I hope you're wrong about another civil war.

The divisions are troubling enough without imagining where they might lead.

My bigger concern is making sure Canada never again finds itself so vulnerable to whatever happens south of our border.

We can't control America's future, but we can certainly take responsibility for our own.

I feel that fear as well...trust is lost at this point.

Fred Ferguson (GeezerWise)'s avatar

I understand, Patsy.

And once trust is broken, it takes a lot more than a change of president to rebuild it.

That's why I believe Canada needs to keep moving forward, regardless of what happens south of the border.

The way that the goons in ICE have behaved, a law unto themselves, they will turn this violence into something far more serious.

It is scary stuff indeed.

Fred Ferguson (GeezerWise)'s avatar

It is frightening, Peter, and I understand your concern.

I just hope cooler heads prevail before things get worse.

Canada can't control what happens inside the United States, but we can make sure we're better prepared for whatever comes next.

As we all should be.

I have reached out to my Federal member of the Australian parliament, who is assisting the Prime Minister, to voice my concern that we appear to not be prepared for what might come.

Given how easily the orange-hued turd was enticed by the war mongering Bibi Netanyahu into attacking Iran and the scheming of AIPAC and MOSSAD to blackmail both the Legislative and Executive branches of government, we should expect the worst and be well-prepared for that to occur.
