Democrats have taken back Congress. Trump has lost his grip on Washington. But Canadians shouldn’t mistake an American election result for a solution to our own problems.
Thank you Fred for writing this. I was contemplating writing my own article on this subject. And you are bang on. This does not change anything in the relationship Canada has with the USA.
We MUST focus on our own country and what we can do to improve it, make it safe and make our own path in the world out from under the shadow of the USA.
Hi Fred great article and I also agree. The important thing is to continue the forward momentum in my estimation. A race isn’t won by stopping mid stride. It must be run and run well with focus and determination.
Premier Doug Ford of Ontario said that he was doing cartwheels after observing the results of the US election! Fred, as your article clearly points out, we can't be popping the champagne bottles just yet. There are some Democrats who aren't totally against tariffs; they want to protect the interests of Americans. We in Canada cannot lose sight of our strategic goals, and our PM's non-emotional approach is exactly what's needed. Doug Ford would be wise to try to emulate Mark Carney.
However, for the sake of our American friends, I think we can all breathe a sigh of relief at the beginning of the end for the US MAGA movement.
And I hope that our Maple MAGA types here in Canada take a good look at the US results, especially politicians like Danielle Smith and some of her UCP members, as well as CPC MPs like Jovani.

I quite agree

Well said, Fred
