Tamara Lich is supposed to be on house arrest. She should be forced to stay in her house,in Canada. When her house arrest is served and she is free to go wherever she wants, she should f.ck right off and join all the other delusional maple maga fascists in the usa.Canada deserves better citizens than her and her traitorous goons.

Lorraine, regardless of where anyone stands politically, Canada's laws apply to everyone equally.

If someone is under court-ordered conditions, those conditions should be respected and enforced.

The bigger issue for me is making sure Canada's future is shaped by Canadians... not by outside political influence or by people trying to divide us from within.

Fred. How does Tamara Lich get across the border? Even if she was done her time. Canadian Kids used to get picked up (before legalization) and are STILL criminals because they had a small bit of a Marijuana smoke AND they can never go across the border. Why is it open for her?

Fred Ferguson (GeezerWise)'s avatar

Judy, that's exactly the question many people are asking.

Having a criminal conviction can make someone inadmissible to the United States, but U.S. border officials have broad discretion, and there are waivers and other exceptions in some cases.

Until she actually crosses the border, we don't know what decision U.S. authorities will make.

If she is admitted while others with less serious records have been turned away,

Canadians are certainly entitled to ask why.

This year, She was permitted to attend the July 4 independence day BBQ at the ottawa residence of the US Ambassador.

Fred Ferguson (GeezerWise)'s avatar

Josee, that's true.

She attended the July 4 event at the U.S. Ambassador's residence in Ottawa, which makes the current travel request all the more noteworthy.

Attending a diplomatic reception isn't the same as being granted entry into the United States, but together they raise reasonable questions about the nature of those relationships.

That's why I think Canadians should be paying attention.

Fred, another terrific and timely article. I certainly hope that Ms. Lich is not granted freedom (pun intended) to travel south. When her house arrest is over, she should permanently move to the US to join up with undoubtedly the corruptest regime ever. Words cannot describe the contempt that I have for Trump and his enablers.

I always check out your Substack articles first, but I do follow Dean Blundell, Zev Shalev, Mary Trump, and Heather Delaney Reese, among others. What is going on in the States is unbelievable, truly disgusting, and disheartening.

Fred Ferguson (GeezerWise)'s avatar

Jerry, thank you... I really appreciate that, especially knowing the company my work keeps.

I think one thing Canadians need to avoid is becoming consumed by anger.

We should absolutely pay attention to what's happening in the U.S., because it affects us directly, but our focus has to stay on building a stronger, more self-reliant Canada.

That's the story I'm most interested in following.

Josee's avatar

She was allowed to travel to Ottawa for the US July 4 BBQ hosted at the residence of the American Ambassador… I hope her passport had to be rendered…

Fred Ferguson (GeezerWise)'s avatar

Josee, I don't know whether her passport was surrendered as part of her release conditions... that would depend on the specific court order.

What we do know is that because she's under court-imposed conditions, she has to ask the court for permission to travel.

If permission is granted by the Canadian court, she'd still need to satisfy U.S. border authorities before being allowed to enter.

Those are two separate decisions.

Trump' and his goons have been very clear that their goal is to annex Canada. Using a traitor like Lich to spread division would further that goal. Under no circumstances should she be granted a pass to leave the country. I'd rather see her locked up in isolation to serve out her term.

Fred Ferguson (GeezerWise)'s avatar

Frank, I think the key principle is that the courts should decide based on the law and the conditions of her release... not politics.

My bigger concern is the broader issue.

If people connected to Canadian separatist movements are attracting attention from officials in Washington during a trade dispute, Canadians have every right to ask questions and stay vigilant.

Our country's future should always be decided here at home.

Frank Kuma's avatar

Absolutely Fred, the Trump administration is unscrupulous without any moral integrity and have no respect for our sovereignty. Of course the decisions should be ours as Canadians, but Trump will never respect that right.

The US has always used multiple weapons on its so -called friends and allies to keep them quiet and deferential to US demands. Canada has decided we don’t want US influence in our country so what better way to divide and damage Canada than to attract these imbecilic morons, cosplaying as intelligent political actors so they can be more easily manipulated to do as much damage to Canada from the inside as possible.

No actual evidence, a history of that same playbook being used buy the USA for decades to get what THEY want!

Fred Ferguson (GeezerWise)'s avatar

Alexis, history certainly shows that major powers... including the United States...

have often tried to advance their interests by cultivating political allies abroad or taking advantage of divisions in other countries.

Whether that's what's happening here is something Canadians should examine carefully and based on evidence.

But I do agree with your larger point...

our best defence is staying united, thinking critically, and making sure Canada's future is decided by Canadians... not influenced from outside.

Exactly so.

It appears to me that Canada is at a great inflection point. We are not just adjusting to the new world order and resulting economic , political ,and changes in international alliances, but we are actively redefining our own National reality ,principles and culture.

The process has been and continues to be painful and nerve-racking. It makes us vulnerable to forces both inside and outside of our control. We have always been in a situation where some outside forces only tolerate our independence when we are easily controlled. we are moving beyond that point now.

We need to be more and more vigilant about the influences that are being unleashed both internally and from outside forces.

Let’s have a keen eye on all of the discussions, and try to be aware of the motivations of all parties as we re create this great nation’s future

Fred Ferguson (GeezerWise)'s avatar

John, I think you've captured what many Canadians are feeling, whether they realize it or not.

We're living through more than a trade dispute.

We're rethinking who we are, who we can rely on, and how we protect our sovereignty in a changing world.

It's uncomfortable, but it also gives Canada an opportunity to emerge stronger and more self-reliant.

As you said, vigilance matters... but so does keeping our debates grounded in facts.

That's how we build a stronger country together.

annemarie's avatar

I hope you'all see that a weaker Canada, is gold for Trump... especially now Canada becomes more independent and tarrifs aren't going his way. Independency in a world that is getting smaller and smaller is an illusion, ask the people of the UK, Who are full off Bregret.

Fred Ferguson (GeezerWise)'s avatar

Annemarie, I think the lesson is that independence doesn't mean isolation.

Every country depends on trade and alliances.

The difference is having choices.

Canada is stronger when we're not overly dependent on any one country and can make decisions based on our own interests, not because we have no alternative.

That's the direction I hope we keep moving.

They are all part of the IDU.

Projext 2025 is very real and roughly 50% implemented in the US..

Projext 2025 has specific ideas about “managing” all the resources on their continent…

Fred Ferguson (GeezerWise)'s avatar

Josee, the IDU is certainly an influential international network of conservative political parties, and Project 2025 is a real policy blueprint that has shaped debate around the current U.S. administration.

Where I think Canadians should keep their focus is on evidence.

Whenever ideas, organizations, or political movements appear to overlap across borders, it's worth paying attention... but it's equally important to separate documented facts from assumptions.

Canada's decisions should always be made in Canada's interests.
