Am inclined to believe Hoekstra’s presence in Canada is a daily reminder to all that keeping our $ out of the US has been having a meaningful impact on the US. Can’t wait to never hear his name but agree with PM Carney- the US is doing a brilliant job showing the world what a petty administration they have
I have stopped purchasing anything made in the USA. We all need to keep an eye on the influence that money from the US will have on Alberta and the (vast minority of) people that think they want to separate from Canada. They are just plain deluded.
You are absolutely right. If they actually try to separate, they'll soon find it was better and easier to stay. The rest of Canada doesn't want Alberta to leave; we just want Danielle Smith to leave. If she thinks it's so much better in the US, she ought to just move there.
Also this is such a lame and low effort political stunt. Didn’t even bother to create a political movement just highjack the corrupt and opportunistic Danllie Smith, and gaslight Alberta into a 9 question referendum where the questions are made up and the results don’t have any binding influence. Non of these questions can be solved/addressed in this manner and it’s a waste of time and resources like almost every other thing this government does or says. The UPC is slowly destroying any government service that worked or provided value to the everyday Albertan. They just increase our costs and provide us with nothing but higher municipal taxes and underfunded schools, hospitals and closed emergency rooms. Ungoverning party of corruption.

Fred, you have an amazing Prime Minister. He has kept his cool and anticipated all of Washington’s moves. Perhaps one of your television producers would like to make a programme about life in the Southern United States in all its glory? Then air it on Alberta television. Perhaps if they see exactly how poorly off those people are then they might shut up about becoming part of the Disunited States

Real life tends to be a lot more complicated than “grass is greener” politics.
Healthcare, wages, education, insurance, infrastructure... people should probably look at the whole picture before romanticizing anybody else’s system.

The people in those states probably have the same amount of education as Alberta Separatists. But I think Puerto Rico would be a better example, they still don’t have voting rights after over 200 years.

To me it sounds like the ambassador is trying to lay favor with the person that appointed him. Everybody's job in this administration is always on the line unless they speak the party line. Stay strong Canada.

Every time the “51st state” nonsense resurfaces, it probably reminds Canadians why they started changing buying habits in the first place.
Sometimes the best protest isn’t loud... it’s quiet, consistent, and shows up in spending.
And yes… the current U.S. administration seems oddly determined to turn allies into annoyed neighbours.
Wish I could come up with a mental strategy to tune out pp as well..other than never have voted conservative and never will

Whatever people think politically, Alberta leaving Canada was never going to be a simple bumper sticker solution.
Geography, trade, treaties, pensions, currency, jobs... it gets complicated fast.

I already signed the petition and emailed my member of Parliament to complain and ask them to investigate Hoekstra and his disgusting conduct.

Whether people agree or disagree, petitions and contacting MPs are exactly how Canadians are supposed to push concerns through the system.

Funny thing is, the harder they push the “51st state” talk, the more Canadians seem to pull closer together and choose Canada first.
