This Letter Is For You (If It Feels Like I’m Talking to You, I Am)
It took me 73 years to figure this out. I hope you don’t wait that long.
Dear Son,
There comes a time in every life when the weight of pretending falls off, and something real begins to rise in its place.
That feeling of being lost? It’s not the end. It’s often the beginning—of awakening.
I didn't start growing up until I was well into my 40s, and even now, at 73, I’m still learning how to show up as myself.
For most of my life, I thought I had to have it all figured out before I said anything.
But it turns out, the most important words come when you finally stop trying to sound smart—and just speak from the heart.
That’s what I’m doing now with this writing. It’s not for fame or money. It’s me, building a legacy out of truth.
The kind of truth I wish someone had handed me when I was younger, sitting alone, wondering if I’d ever feel whole.
So if you’re feeling lost, take heart.
You’re not broken—you’re waking up.
And if it feels like I’m speaking directly to you, good.
Because I am.
If I had a son, I’d want him to hear this.
Fred
