These so-called “requests” from California legislators are sounding more and more like demands. They’re also preposterous - oh, gee, we don’t like trump; we’re at his mercy; we don’t agree with what he’s doing. So it’s reasonable that you rescue us. I didn’t see any move at all from them to advocate against the tariffs when they were hurting us. I say “go pound your great California sand” and just maybe work harder to substantially support, rather than kneecap, your great progressive Democratic candidates - like Mamdani, Bernie, AOC. My view is a little simpler... if you want Canadians to buy your products again, the first step is helping remove the policies that caused the boycott in the first place.
Asking for market access while the tariffs remain is a tough argument to make.

Whatever our provincial politics, this dispute has shown that standing together gives Canada far more leverage than standing apart.
The real lesson is that tariffs and pressure don't build trust... they encourage Canadians to find other options.
Once those habits change, they're not easy to reverse.

I think some U.S. politicians underestimated how much attitudes have changed in Canada.
This isn't about Canadians being stubborn... it's about cause and effect.
When tariffs stay in place, people adjust.
Once consumers find good alternatives, asking them to simply go back isn't nearly as easy as it sounds.

I think that's exactly what surprised so many people.
The 77% drop isn't really a story about wine... it's a story about Canadians standing together.
We've discovered we have choices, and that gives us more leverage than many ever imagined.

Rebuilding trust is usually much harder than losing it, and that's the lesson this trade dispute is starting to teach.
