Living in the Maritimes, we’ve been talking about the effects of Acid Rain on our forestry industry since the late 80s when I was in high school! It’s not gotten better.
It seems to me that US manufacturers will adopt technologies they can sell. Those wishing to sell outside the US fossil fuel permissive market will have to produce product that will sell in loss emission markets. Those lower emission products will slowly but surely infiltrate the US market, just as lowly and surely displacing higher emission products.
If the rest of the world demands lower-emission products, manufacturers will build them... and eventually those same products show up everywhere, including at home.
It occurred to me listening, that we don’t need to be afraid, do any pearl clutching every time the US 🇺🇸 farts anymore. I think that’s thanks to PM Carney. In his, can I say, foundational Davos speech, it’s like (being a super great leader, go whine now Pierre) he’s given us “permission” to not fear them.
It's going to be interesting when the Canada based forest fire smoke hits the northern U.S. and they start writing letters about pollution. I'm sure someone will reply "why are you complaining? you don't care about air quality anymore." Not that two wrongs make a right, but thoughtful response is often secondary when an obvious scapegoat is available. Making popcorn.

You’re absolutely right Aimee. Acid rain was one of the earliest reminders that environmental impacts don’t respect borders.
It’s also a good example of how long-term industrial issues can take decades to show up fully in local economies like forestry.

Exactly. Companies follow customers, not slogans.

Or so much the crazy stuff they’re doing, planning on doing.

Conservatives desperately clinging to the Robber Baron Past
While the world powers on with 21st Century GREEN ENERGY,
the good ol’ conservative Republican Party,
digs in its fascist heels in to leave us mired in the sticky tar of,
DIRTY 19th-century oil & even 18th-century COAL!
And the wealthiest corporate owners of the Republican Party intend to keep it that way …
