These are the same people that have the “fu€k Trudeau” stickers on their pick ups and beater cars and it’s just pathetic🙄

Fred Ferguson (GeezerWise)'s avatar

At some point it stops being politics and starts becoming bumper-sticker performance art. 😏

Where did we go wrong, that this is what some have become? It seems the older I get, I see more and more so called adults acting like spoiled little children throwing a temper tantrum.

Fred Ferguson (GeezerWise)'s avatar

We somehow confused outrage with maturity somewhere along the way.

The funny (or sad?) thing is that these envelopes were not even delivered by the post office.

Census workers delivered those.

But the person that scribbled "Return" on it and put it in a mailbox is soooooo incredibly stupid and uneducated in these civil things.

Fred Ferguson (GeezerWise)'s avatar

Politics aside Lion… it does help to know who actually delivered the thing you’re protesting. 😏

It feels like the hate virus spread by MAGA supporters has found its way to Canada. Because their life is not what they envisioned, rather than look inward to see what they can do differently, they lash out at others for not curing their situation. That virus brings with it words like “illegitimate” and “fake” that point their finger elsewhere. We are learning here any time they are used the opposite is most likely the truth. People have a way of projecting their inadequacies on others as a way of self healing. We can probably thank social media for helping manifest and spread this virus.

Fred Ferguson (GeezerWise)'s avatar

There does seem to be a lot more anger, grievance and “everything is fake” thinking floating around these days, Carole.

Social media definitely pours gasoline on it.

People have confused reality with digital chat - they live in a non-real world

Fred Ferguson (GeezerWise)'s avatar

At some point Deirdre, the comment section started feeling more real than real life for some folks. 😕

I am becoming more and more concerned that this disease of ignorant, performative political rage and lack of any actual knowledge is contagious and has spread far past the US border, thanks to Harper, Poilievre, Jivani and others at the provincial levels!

Fred Ferguson (GeezerWise)'s avatar

I think social media accelerated a lot of this Alexis, but yes...

the “permanent outrage” style of politics feels far more visible now.

Not to mention DS!

Fred Ferguson (GeezerWise)'s avatar

Haha… I had a feeling DS wouldn’t stay out of this comment section for long. 😏

During the Vietnam War “Hippie” protesters called police officers “Pigs” because the police were called to control protests. One police response was: next time you have a car accident, call a “Hippie”.

Fred Ferguson (GeezerWise)'s avatar

Amazing how quickly “the system is useless” turns into “where’s the system?” when life goes sideways. 😏

I think that there are always those people that think that ‘they’ know better how things should be run. It is the same here in the UK. The Reform voters honestly believe what Farage says, despite proof that says he is lying, because they want to demonstrate against something. Anything will do! Racism is the usual one. You are either ‘for’ Jews, or ‘for’ Palestinians .

Fred Ferguson (GeezerWise)'s avatar

That pull toward “pick a side and stop thinking” does seem stronger these days, Penny.

Real life is usually messier than that.

I took a whole 10 to 15 minutes to fill ours out. I know what they are for and I want my community to have the full benefit. I know at least 1 person who didn't fill it out for the performative reasons mentioned. I had had some respect for her. I now have less.

Fred Ferguson (GeezerWise)'s avatar

That’s exactly it, Keith.

It’s 10–15 minutes that actually helps communities plan for real needs.

Hard to understand turning it into political theatre.

Mrs J Gilchrist's avatar

Yes, next level stupid. I hope they get the maximum penalty for not complying with the law and filling out their census. Something so simple, and for the better of all Canadians!

Fred Ferguson (GeezerWise)'s avatar

Strange hill to plant a protest flag on, honestly. 😏

Brian Rosen's avatar

I skipped the humour and went directly to sad.

Fred Ferguson (GeezerWise)'s avatar

Fair point, Brian.

The funny wears off pretty quickly.

Chris Galletly's avatar

Hope that the Government decides to hold them all accountable with maximum fines. Sucks to be them.

Fred Ferguson (GeezerWise)'s avatar

Strange thing to turn into a political hill to die on, Chris.

The 16 digit code inside is tied to the address FFS. If a bureaucrat wants to make whomever's life difficult, not completing the census is illegal.

There's this little petty part of me that says, "I hope someone at StatsCan decides to **** them up." 😂

Fred Ferguson (GeezerWise)'s avatar

I’m guessing somewhere at StatsCan there was just a deep sigh and an eye roll. 😂

Micheal Scott's avatar

Another Skippy McIdiot…. They are a tiresome lot 🙄🙄🙄❤️🇨🇦

Fred Ferguson (GeezerWise)'s avatar

Haha… there does seem to be no shortage of political theatre these days, Micheal. 😏

Patsy Rideout's avatar

Thanks Fred. I think this is so childish! The mentality of a 10 year old that didn't get enough candy! High school dropout, cause it was too hard & they just wanted to sleep in. Now, society & the law has to teach them. Pppppffffffftttt

Fred Ferguson (GeezerWise)'s avatar

Haha… there’s definitely a lot of “adult-sized temper tantrum”

energy floating around some days, Patsy. 😏
