Letters I Thought I’d Never Write
🎂 Letters I Thought I’d Never Write
April 19, 2025 — My 73rd Birthday
I didn’t think I’d make it to 73.
Truth be told, I didn’t think I’d make it past 40. I lived recklessly. Self-destructively. And for a long time, I didn’t care whether I lived or died.
But something shifted 41 years, 7 months, and 26 days into my life. That’s the day I got sober. The day everything started over.
What came after wasn’t always easy. But it was real. And it gave me time—time I didn’t think I had, time I didn’t believe I deserved.
And now, at 73, I find myself writing letters I thought I’d never write.
Letters to a son I never had.
Letters to the younger version of myself.
Letters to strangers who might find a sliver of their own story in mine.
These aren’t polished essays. They’re not advice columns or blueprints for life.
They’re reflections. Rants. Apologies. Warnings. Quiet moments of grace.
They’re what’s left when a man looks back and decides to speak up anyway.
I’m launching this project today—not to make noise, but to make meaning.
If you’ve found your way here, I hope you’ll stick around. Maybe even subscribe.
And if you ever have a question, memory, or topic you'd like me to reflect on, just hit reply. I can’t promise a response, but I do read everything.
Thanks for being here on this strange, beautiful milestone of a day.
Here’s to whatever comes next.
