Let’s not sugarcoat it:
Being broke is terrifying.
When you’re behind on bills, staring at an empty fridge, and wondering how to make it through the week — the last thing you need is some fake guru yelling at you to “build your brand.”
So let me say this clearly:
You don’t need motivation right now. You need a lifeline.
I’ve been where you are.
Flat broke.
No savings.
No backup plan.
Just me, my fear, and whatever small spark was left inside.
Here’s what I wish someone had told me back then:
🔥 You’re not broken.
You’re just in a storm.
And like every storm, it will pass — if you keep moving.
So here’s how to move:
Step 1: Stop the Bleeding
Cut everything that isn’t essential.
Cancel subscriptions
Pause auto-renewals
Delay any payment that won’t destroy your credit or housing
Be ruthless — not forever, just for now
You’re not failing.
You’re stabilizing.
Step 2: Stack Small Wins
Forget about “big money.” Focus on any money.
Sell something
Do a task for someone you know
Offer to help — cleaning, tech, rides, dog walking, you name it
List on local groups or marketplaces
Deliver value, even if it feels small
This isn’t about ego.
It’s about evidence that you can earn.
The first $5 you earn today is more important than the $500 you dream about later.
Step 3: Talk to Someone Who Knows the Way
Don’t hide.
Don’t go silent.
Reach out to someone — even if it’s just to say:
"I need help figuring this out."
Whether it’s a trusted friend, a counselor, a debt advisor, or even someone like me through these letters — you’re not weak for asking.
You're wise for not doing this alone.
Step 4: Make One Promise to Yourself
Not ten goals.
Just one.
Something like:
“I will track every dollar I spend this week.”
“I will not take on new debt this month.”
“I will earn $20 outside my job by Friday.”
Then follow through.
It’s not about the size.
It’s about proving to yourself that you’re still in the game.
💬 Final Thought:
Being broke doesn’t disqualify you.
It qualifies you for a comeback story.
You’re not starting from scratch.
You’re starting from experience.
And this time, you’re building a life on purpose.
With you,
Fred (GeezerWise)
