You’ve described AI as a tool to help you with your writing - that’s the perfect use, as an aid to get things done. It’s not going to replace humans anytime soon. At least I hope not.

You’re right Kevin... I don’t see AI replacing people either.

For me, it’s simpler than that.

It just helps me keep doing something I wasn’t sure I could keep doing.

I still do the thinking.

I still say the words.

AI just helps me get them onto the page without the fight.

Well said.

I totally understand! AI is a tool, that when used in ways that free a writer's voice or a philosopher's thoughts, or an engineer's ideas in a form that's matches their truth/perspective/design and brings it clearly to others it's a win/win. This neurodivergent writer struggled for decades to get her journal full of words typed in some format for publication. Computers coming online made that infinitely faster--then blogging--then self-publishing. Step by step, technology has opened the cage doors for me as I can sense it has done for you.

Beautifully said, Dorothy.

“Technology has opened the cage doors” is one hell of a line.

I felt that.

For some of us, the issue was never lack of ideas...

it was the struggle of getting them out into the world.

Step by step, these tools have made that easier.

Not by replacing our voice… but by helping it come through.

I get where you are coming from. I'm a one finger one hand (left hand at that) typist and gave up writing much as it takes to long to produce anything of substance. The other day it took me three hours to produce a letter to my bank. Maybe it is time for me to get on the AI train just to stop wasting my time. lol

Keith, three hours for a bank letter… yeah, I’ve been there. 😄

That’s exactly why I started doing this differently.

I talk it out first now, then let AI help tidy it up.

Way less typing… way less pain.

Not about jumping on the AI train... just about making life a bit easier.

OR, a computer you can talk into & it does the work for you :)

Close, Patsy 😄

I dictate… create a transcript and AI helps tidy things up.

But the thinking part still belongs to me.

That’s the part I’m not handing over anytime soon.

Very informing piece Fred. Thank you.

What I didn't really get was how you hot the AI to write like it was you?

Fred Ferguson (GeezerWise)'s avatar

Didn’t at first.

Took some nudging to get it closer to my voice.

It’s more trial and error than magic.
