How I Went From 0 to 105,606 Points in 74 Days
What a 74-year-old two-finger typer learned about attention, AI, and writing things people actually read.
For a long time, I thought I was “bad at social media.”
Too slow.
Too old.
Too clunky on a keyboard.
I type with two fingers like it’s still 1985.
My hands shake.
Half the time I hit the wrong key.
So competing with kids who can type 90 words a minute?
Yeah… no thanks.
But something funny happened.
Instead of trying to type faster…
I stopped typing.
And started thinking better.
The scoreboard
In 74 days, inside a large Canadian political group on Facebook, I went from…
0 authority
0 reputation
just another guy in the comments
to…
• All-Star Contributor
• 105,606 contribution points
• 1,388 friends
• daily posts hitting top engagement
No ads.
No team.
No tricks.
Just me, coffee… and AI.
What I didn’t do
Let’s get this out of the way first.
I didn’t…
• argue all day
• write essays in comment wars
• grind 12 hours
• chase drama
• try to “go viral”
That stuff burns you out fast.
And honestly?
It mostly builds the platform’s business… not yours.
I learned that the hard way.
What I actually did
I simplified everything.
1. I stopped typing and used voice-to-text
I talk faster than I type.
So I talk.
Phone transcribes.
Done.
Instant 5x speed boost.
2. I used AI to clean up my thinking
Not to “fake write.”
To organize.
I’d dump messy thoughts into AI and say…
“Make this clear and readable.”
Suddenly my posts sounded sharper.
Shorter.
Punchier.
Easier to understand.
People share clarity.
Not rambling.
3. I focused on signal, not noise
No hot takes.
No insults.
No performative nonsense.
Just…
Here’s what happened.
Here’s what it means.
Here’s what people are missing.
Turns out adults are starving for calm, plain English.
Who knew.
4. I posted consistently
Not perfectly.
Consistently.
One solid post a day beats five chaotic ones.
Every time.
The weird realization
Around week six, something clicked.
I wasn’t “working harder.”
I was working lighter.
Less effort.
Better output.
AI wasn’t replacing me.
It was doing the heavy lifting I was never good at anyway.
Like power steering for your brain.
And then it hit me…
If I could do this…
At 74
With shaky hands
Typing with two fingers
What excuse does anyone else really have?
That’s when things changed.
Because this stopped being…
“Look what I did.”
And started becoming…
“Wait… other people could do this too.”
Why this matters now
Here’s the part nobody tells you…
Building attention on platforms you don’t own is temporary.
Building assets you control is permanent.
So after learning how to write posts people actually read…
I moved that skill over to Substack.
Where…
• I own my list
• I own my words
• nobody can throttle reach
• and the work compounds
Smarter land to farm.
The lesson
This wasn’t a social media win.
It was proof of something simpler…
Clear thinking + simple tools + consistency
beats talent and speed every time.
Especially now that AI exists.
You don’t need to be fast.
You just need leverage.
So yeah…
From 0 to 105,606 points in 74 days.
Not because I’m special.
Because I finally stopped fighting my limitations…
…and started using tools.
If an old two-finger typer can figure this out…
you’re going to be just fine.
