I agree. Now, perhaps if we go with the SAAB fighter jet and surveillance aircraft bid, these highly skilled workers can transition into the aeronautical field. Also, if we go with the South Korean submarine purchase, the promise to move auto production to Canada also affords opportunities for the workers.

Exactly, we have highly skilled workers and the Saab fighter jets would fit right into our military. And they work in the cold! What is more Canadian than that?

Exactly, Shelagh... and this is what people miss.

These aren’t “laid-off auto workers.”

These are elite, precision tradespeople.

If you can build a truck in February in Oshawa, you can build anything.

Jets.

Subs.

Armoured vehicles.

Spacecraft for all I care.

And yeah… fighter jets that actually work in Canadian winters?

That just makes sense.

If Saab AB can design aircraft that handle snow, ice, and darkness half the year, they’re basically honorary Canadians already. 😄

Honestly, this might be the silver lining.

Less dependence on U.S. auto giants.

More Canadian contracts.

More pride in what we build here.

That’s not protectionism... that’s common sense.

We’ve got the skills.

Time to back ourselves for once.

Good point, Ron... and this is exactly the kind of thinking we need more of.

These aren’t “just car jobs.”

They’re precision manufacturing jobs.

Same hands.

Same brains.

Different product.

If you can build a truck to millimetre tolerances, you can build aircraft parts or submarines.

We’ve got world-class tradespeople sitting here.

So yeah... if contracts with Saab AB or partnerships tied to South Korea bring aerospace or defense manufacturing to Canada, that’s not a downgrade…

That’s an upgrade.

Better margins.

Longer contracts.

Harder for politicians to yank around.

Honestly?

Diversifying away from “just autos” might be the smartest thing that ever happened to places like Oshawa.

Because putting all our eggs in one American basket hasn’t exactly worked out lately.

Appreciate you thinking solutions instead of slogans. 👊
