š„ GeezerWise Says: What Nobody Wants to Say Out Loud
Written by Fred Ferguson (GeezerWise)
A clear-eyed Canadian look at sovereignty, geopoliticsā¦
and the bullshit polite people whisper about⦠until itās too late.
I didnāt plan to spend the back half of my seventies writing about sovereignty, geopolitics, and the slow-motion unraveling happening right in front of us.
But here we are.
Iāve lived long enough to watch history repeat itself in different outfitsā¦
and Iāve watched Canadians keep doing what we do best:
Staying calm.
Staying polite.
Staying quiet.
Even when the ground is moving under our feet.
And right now, the ground is moving.
Not because Canada suddenly became āpoliticalāā¦
but because the world is getting sharper, colder, and less stable⦠and pretending everything is fine doesnāt protect anyone.
Hereās the uncomfortable truth:
We live next door to a superpower thatās losing its grip ā and weāre still acting like itās 1998.
For most of my life, the U.S. was loud, chaotic, occasionally embarrassing⦠but fundamentally dependable.
You could roll your eyes at the circus, but you could trust the structure underneath it.
Thatās not what weāre dealing with anymore.
The global order is shifting.
Alliances are wobbling.
Countries are re-arming.
Borders are becoming ārealā again⦠not just lines on a map.
And Canada is being forced to face questions we havenāt had to answer in generations:
What does sovereignty actually mean when the world stops playing nice?
What happens when your closest ally is too distracted to defend itself ā never mind you?
How long can a country survive on politeness when everyone else is sharpening their edges?
Thatās why I write.
Not as a pundit.
Not as a partisan.
Not as someone trying to āwinā arguments online.
I write as a 73-year-old Canadian whoās watched enough cycles to recognize the smell of trouble before it becomes official.
GeezerWise Says is where I do that.
Not rage.
Not propaganda.
Not tribal cheerleading.
Just signal through noise.
If you want polite small talk, youāre in the wrong place.
But if you want straight talk ā no spin, no team jerseys, no bullshit ā pull up a chair.
Iāll keep saying the quiet parts out loud while Canada still has time to think clearly.
Subscribe if you want to stay ahead of the noise.
Weāre going to need clear thinking for the road ahead.
