Canada needs to insulate against this type of over reach

I'm glad to see that Amazon was fined in Europe. They take a lot of liberties with their

customers. I found the Amazon app installed on my computer. So every time I was

shopping online, they popped up with their offer. I did, of course, delete their app.

Time to move from fines to banishment. If the EU bans fascist social media I predict their economy will become far more productive.

As a European, I fully support having control over my own data, and I am happy for my country to implement laws to protect me. So far all that tech-based innovation (such as AI), is bringing only surveillance systems, loss of jobs and environmental damage. No thanks

Heard about the Google decision yesterday in Canada. It’s a start, anyway.

I didn't hear anything about it but I did learn about a Canadian developed social media company called "gander social.ca"

I plan on checking into it tonight

I thought it could be helpful to them as well as supporting a Canadian entrepreneur.

It would be nice to have a place to communicate ( other than Substack) with Canadians

I signed up and it is a social media company so I'm not sure where you got to

I didn't see anything. Would you mind elaborating?

In fact the data does not need to sit on servers in the US for the US government to access or restrict the data. US companies for the most part will comply with US Government requests even if the data is hosted on their servers outside the US.

Microsoft restricted access the accounts of International Criminal Court personnel after the President decided to sanction them for their investigation into the potential criminal activities of US Government personnel.

I still think the Europeans are being weak....levying fines instead of retracting contracts....
