I appreciate some points you touched on here Fred, faster decisions with a majority government, thank God! The minority government Justin Trudeau inherited was a fiasco for him. You can't make a decision with so many others whining about everything & the bills don't get passed, the work doesn't get done & everyone blamed Trudeau! NO, it was not Trudeau, it was the PP's & others whining all the time & nothing gets done. I am tickled to death with Carneys majority, now our country can move forward!

You nailed the core issue, Patsy...

a minority government can talk all day, but it can’t move.

What just changed isn’t about personalities… it’s about decision-making power.

Now we finally get to see what happens when the brakes come off.

I am thrilled too about PM Carney having full control now. Sadly, Justin Trudeau also had full control in his first term but he didn't have a vision the way PM Carney has, so it was wasted. Thank God we have PM Carney at this momentous time in our history.

Fair point, Carol-Ann... having control and using it well are two very different things.

What makes this moment different is the external pressure.

Canada doesn’t have the luxury of drifting anymore… decisions now actually matter on the global stage.

We’re about to find out real quick what focused leadership looks like under pressure.

Here’s hoping we can move the needle in the U.S. Congress to get our democracy back. Impeach Trump!

I hear the frustration... a lot of people are feeling it right now.

From Canada’s side though, the focus has to stay on what we can control…

strengthening our own position no matter who’s in Washington.

That’s the shift you’re starting to see happen.

Minority governments can work and work very well in Scandinavian countries that have proportional representation as all of their governments are minority governments. The difference is that their parties are working for the country and the people whereas in Canada, we have CPC that want to block everything as they think they should be in charge even though the voters told them ‘no’. And we have a separatist party with few votes on a national basis, but a large chunk of MP’s as they represent only the needs of 1 province.

You’re right Richard... minority governments can work, and the Scandinavian model proves that.

The difference comes down to political culture.

Those systems are built around cooperation… ours tends to lean toward confrontation.

In theory, minority forces collaboration.

In practice, here, it often just slows everything down.

Unfortunately we live too close to America, a country that thrives on confrontation and violence. We need to move away from their stupidity not introduce it as the CPC has done.

We can’t change geography... only how much we rely on it.

And what happens when some of these trade agreements use sovereign currencies rather than the US dollar?

Fred Ferguson (GeezerWise)'s avatar

That’s where things get interesting, Dean.

If more trade starts happening outside the U.S. dollar, it doesn’t collapse the system overnight... but it weakens the leverage the U.S. has used for decades.

Less dollar use = less control over trade pressure, sanctions, and financial influence.

It won’t flip in a day… but if enough countries start building around it, the shift becomes real.

Epstein island hopper Nutlick was reported on today stating Trump says CUSMA is a bad deal. His deal … his deal after NAFTA. Okay if he says it’s a bad deal, he signed it. Seeing Nutlick’s smug arrogance and his creep smile I thought to myself « we are so tired of your BS.

Focus on Iran you bloody idiots ».
