I just LOVE this issue Fred! No more having USA scraps thrown at us, if we beg. The orange ball can do the begging while we work hard at becoming more independent!!! "Canada Strong"!
Patsy, I hear you... and I think a lot of Canadians are feeling that shift right now.
For me, it’s less about anyone “begging” and more about Canada finally realizing we don’t have to.
That’s the real change.
When you’ve got countries competing to invest here, and deals coming to the table with real jobs attached… you can afford to be patient and pick your spots.
That’s how independence actually gets built... quietly, piece by piece.
Excellent post Fred! Just what I have been watching our PM achieve in the last year. Mark Carneys global banking experience has led us to this point.
I wish the Conservative Party would get on board and instead of sniping nonsense they would work together towards making Canada the stronger it can be🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦.
🇨🇦💙 You just keep knocking them out of the park. 💪
May 2/26, Carney was the first and only non-European leader invited to participate in the Yerevan summit. MAPLE MAGA must be sickened by all this winning.
Dont get me wrong. A maker mandate no matter who we partner with is the new normal of the Carney government. To the extent this offer is more sound than other maker opportunities it should be pursued in relation to the whole package being offered. That would include the dnd sign off that the Korean subs were the best choice in isolation. Just saying until you hear from the dnd and there assesment of the value of the proposed deal. All you have is an interesting story not a done deal.
Well it depends on what the equipment that they are doing technology transfer on. Canada already has general dynamics that make infranty support vehicles and Rochelle that makes infantry transport vehicles in a wide variety of variations. So my question of whether this is a win is what are the new capabilities offered that are complementary to what we already have. If they are the same capabilities that we already have you havent gained much. So i need a better understanding of the value of the proposition. The picture i saw of a tracked ifv looked old in design. I would like the dnd to comment openly on the value of the equipment relationship before assuming this is game changer.
Great strategy! It's coming together and big projects take time. It's critical that Canada diversify in many ways as Carney knows and why his government is also focussed on training trades and setting in place an investment vehicle for citizens.

Canada Strong!!!
Shelagh, I think that’s what a lot of people are hoping for right now...
less noise, more alignment on the big stuff.
Whatever someone’s political stripe, when the country’s landing investment, creating jobs, and strengthening its position globally…
that should be something we can all get behind.
Debate is healthy. Sniping for the sake of it? Not so much.
If we get more of the first and less of the second, Canada’s in a pretty strong spot.

Roxy, I appreciate that...
and yeah, moments like that don’t happen by accident.
When Canada’s getting invited into rooms it normally wouldn’t be in, that tells you something about how we’re being viewed right now.
I try not to get too caught up in the “who’s winning / who’s losing” side of it.
What matters to me is whether the country’s moving in the right direction...
and lately, there are some solid signs that it is.
Let’s keep watching what actually gets built from it.
The second part becoming the banker for defense investments with allies is genius. Kudos to the Carney team.
Larry, agreed on the defense banking piece... that’s a big one.
And you’re right, none of this is a done deal until DND signs off and the full package is clear.
I’m just flagging the direction and what’s being put on the table.
We’ll see how it shakes out from here.

Good question Larry but it’s in a deeper technical lane than I cover here.
If the final proposal shows clear overlap with existing capabilities,
then it’s a different conversation.
Until then, I’m focused on the strategic direction and investment signals.
Ya that’s all fine and dandy, but Polyp delivered the Calgary newspaper on time.

Kathleen, that’s exactly it.
The big stuff never shows up overnight...
it’s built layer by layer. Trade, training, capital…
it all has to move together or it doesn’t stick.
And the piece you mentioned about investing in our own people?
That’s the one most folks overlook.
You can’t build anything long-term if you don’t have the skilled workforce to support it.
If we keep stacking those pieces the right way, diversification stops being a talking point... and starts becoming reality.
Great read, appreciate your work!
Thank you Fred for the good news
