A separatist campaign. Millions of voter records. U.S.-linked political tech. And now the RCMP is involved. This stopped looking like a grassroots movement the minute data became the weapon.
This is NOT passing the ‘smell test’ as a Lawyer friend used to say. It’s bad enough watch the US Democracy de solve and trap try to take North America. But to have smith blatantly helping trump has gone too far! It feels like we have the democracy cancer here. I’m grateful to the logical and wise Albetans fighting the good fight. So far, so good BUT DANGEROUS
People often talk about these things like they’re just political games, but for the people living through them, the consequences can last for years and become deeply personal.
That’s partly why I write about the longer-term effects...
sometimes the damage doesn’t show up until much later.
And thank you for the kind words… I genuinely appreciate you reading.
Grass roots movements come from bottom-up, meaning the constituents making the decision to form an argument against the leadership.
If you look closely it turns out that it was injected by the leadership not the peoples.
Changing the meaning of Grass roots doesn't make it truth. The UCP government is the separatists party flexing the only muscle they have left and that's called lies.
Well said Fred! Now we know just how greasy DS is, but, we felt it all along. That saying, "you can fool some of the people some of the time, but, you can't fool all of the people all of the time". Ya, you don't have people travelling back & forth to Dumbos office for no reason except to be friendly! Hopefully the whitehouse can be cleaned out through this mess. Scary that our democracy has turned into some filthy oil slicks! PP should be looked at super closely too right now.
Smith, ucp, Republican Party of Alberta, centurion project, j rath and the list continues, MUST be considered as TERRORISTS; thereby applying the rule of law to these TERRORISTS.
So what we are seeing here is a piece of software that with voter data can manipulate whatever they want as an outcome.
We should all be very wary
I hope the application & data swipe gets stopped by the police investigation and people get prosecuted too.
That's the part people should pay attention to, Deirdre.
The software itself isn’t really the story... it’s who has the data and whether they were entitled to have it.
Data can absolutely influence outcomes if it’s used to target the right people with the right message at the right time.
That’s why the investigation matters.
Canadians need confidence the rules are the same for everybody. 🍁

That's the concern a lot of people are wrestling with, Shauna.
I think the important thing is letting the investigations run and following the facts wherever they lead.
But you’re right about one thing... if people start losing trust in the fairness of the democratic process, that’s dangerous territory...
no matter what side of the issue someone is on. 🍁”
You just described Brexit and the now daily flogging of the British PM by the MSM.
The instigators are all of the same modus.
Oligarch or Awfulocracy they both are like arsenic direct from the arse.
Great Minds!
My thoughts exactly.
Fair comparison to raise, Arctic Fox.
Brexit is definitely a case study in how data, targeting, emotion, and media ecosystems can shape political outcomes for years afterward.
Different facts here, of course, but the broader lesson may be the same...
when trust in the process starts wobbling, the fallout can last a very long time. 🍁
Quite. The side effects of a Brexit style campaign are so massive and long lasting it is fair to suggest it is like a chronic illness.
As someone caught up in it I have become soured against the country of my birth.
As you say that transcends normal politics.
Keep up your writing I enjoy reading your articles.
“Thank you for sharing that, Arctic Fox.
That really says something.

Interesting point, Christopher.
Genuine grassroots movements usually grow from the ground up because people feel ignored.
What raises eyebrows here for many people is the perception that political conditions may have helped create fertile ground for the movement.
That’s exactly why transparency matters...
people need confidence they’re seeing authentic public support, not something being quietly amplified behind the scenes. 🍁”
It's worth reflecting on the Cambridge Analytica fiasco.

Good stuff Fred. Like the way you lay it out. So cleanly and unambiguous. Thanks much my friend!
Thanks Patricia... I appreciate that.
I try to take complicated stuff and lay it out in plain English so people can decide for themselves what matters.
Glad it landed for you. 🍁
You’re welcome Fred. You are pretty consistent with that, and I do appreciate it!

Lots of people are connecting dots right now, Patsy...
and I understand why emotions are running high.
I think the key thing is letting the investigations follow the facts wherever they lead.
If rules were broken, accountability matters no matter who’s involved.
What Canadians can’t afford is losing confidence that the democratic process is fair and above board. 🍁
Fred, you are the voice of reason! I agree :) The waiting is hard though, we are all so ready for some "good" news!.

Strong feelings out there right now, Joe.
I’d be careful with labels like that, though. In a democracy, political movements...
even ones people strongly disagree with... are dealt with through laws, investigations, and the courts.
If illegal activity happened, that’s exactly what investigations and prosecutions are for.
The bigger issue for me is making sure the process is fair, legal, and transparent for everyone. 🍁
Thank you for advice. I appreciate it.
Sadly lies can be effective. Hopefully enough people will see through the lies. This is why critical thinking is the skill every individual needs.
Couldn’t agree more, Kalyrn.
Critical thinking may be the most important survival skill of the modern age.
We’re all swimming in narratives, outrage, and algorithms now.
The trick is slowing down long enough to ask...
What are the facts? Who benefits? And does this actually make sense? 🍁
